More About the Toolbox

The Learn To Talk Around The Clock® Professional's Early Intervention Toolbox is based on the premise that the parent-child relationship is the best path to developing listening and oral language in children by using the rich, natural resources of the home and daily routine.

In the creation of this program, the author reflected over more than thirty years of experience working with families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Why were some families successful in stimulating language and listening development in their children? Why did other families struggle even though they demonstrated love and concern, and the desire to do whatever they needed to do to help their child? What was missing?

The author looked to the interactions of master teachers and their young students, and the interactions of parents and children in those families who were successful in stimulating language and listening development.  Signature Behaviors used by effective parents and teachers of children who are deaf or hard of hearing were identified.

The Learn To Talk Around The Clock program creates a hierarchy of behaviors, upon which to build the skills necessary to help the child develop listening and oral language. These behaviors have a cumulative or layered effect and this hierarchy requires mastery from the earliest steps forward to ensure success.

Through the use of around the clock themes, the professional can provide the parent with many opportunities to practice the eight Signature Behaviors.
