Meet Karen Rossi

Karen K Rossi has worked as a School Administrator and an Early Intervention Specialist with families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing since graduating from Washington University in 1971. These years of experience have given Rossi thousands of hours of observing child-to-parent interactions to determine when communication is working, or when communication is breaking down.

Rossi wove these observations into a unique program for professionals to use with parents, Learn To Talk Around The Clock, A Professional's Early Intervention Toolbox®. Rossi identified another population in need of help with these same interactions—children in childcare and their childcare providers. The resulting program by Rossi, Learn To Talk Around The Clock at Childcare©, provides practical, interactive solutions. I Promise to Be A Good Parent© is a book for parents and other friends of young children. In this book, ten strategies for building better interactions with children are introduced as "promises" parents can make to their children. The promises are at the core of all meaningful interactions between parents and children and will optimize the young child’s development of security, confidence, listening skills, and spoken language. Rossi's mission is that all children begin school ready to learn. Rossi is trying to help by providing unique resources—in print, online, and in person—that develop improved interactions between parents/caregivers and children.

Karen's permanent home is in Omaha, Nebraska. She currently resides in Portland, Oregon where she is the Executive Director of The Tucker-Maxon School. Karen speaks nationally on topics related to infants and young children, language and listening development, as well as on Early Intervention and Childcare.
