With every loving kiss, every snuggle, every word, and every lullaby, a baby begins to listen, talk and learn--from the day he or she is born. Loving interactions are just as important on baby's 1st day, 50th day, or 365th day.
In fact, the most valuable time for baby to establish the foundation for learning is from birth to three years of age. Of course children learn and learn a lot after three. But it is during the time from birth to three that the brain is most ready to accept input.

Unfortunately, not all babies are born into a language-rich environment. Some families are non-talkative people by nature, and really do very little talking with their babies. For a variety of other reasons, some seem unable to immerse their child in the language of their home.
And to be fair, some families may not realize how important loving, meaningful talk is to their baby's future.
